Architectural Competitions

Architectural Design competitions deliver exciting buildings and projects in a cost-effective manner. They drive up quality, stimulate creativity and innovation and generate a range of ideas for the benefit of clients. They are a highly successful procurement model that brings out the best in a project – often providing a platform to showcase new and emerging talent.

The Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA) has supported the principle of architectural competitions since the 1960’s and is committed to running fair competitions to improve the quality and sustainability of the built environment in Ghana and the procurement process for  architectural works in Ghana.

About Selection Process

The Ghana Institute of Architects’ competition is a prestigious one that recognizes outstanding architectural work. The competition is judged by a board of juries who meticulously evaluate the submissions. Awards are given based on the highest scores assigned by these jurors, ensuring that the process is fair and unbiased.

The Ghana Institute of Architects (GIA) employs a fair and transparent selection process for determining competition winners. A key aspect of this process is the anonymity of applicants. Each submission is stripped of identifying information before being reviewed by the board of juries. This ensures that the evaluation is based solely on the merits of the work presented, without any influence from the applicants' identities. The jurors assess the submissions using a rigorous set of criteria focused on quality, creativity, and innovation. The highest scores are awarded to the most exemplary projects, guaranteeing a fair and unbiased selection of the winner.

No. The jury is made known to all the stakeholders of the competition before the start of the competition.
